Introduction to Programming language

A Programming language helps us communicate with machines particularly with computers. Different lines of code or instructions define and control the behavior of machine. The first programming language I was introduced to was BASIC(Beginners All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code). I was so thrilled with things one could achieve by mastering programming language. Learning C and C++ was such a prideful moment as those were the most popular languages during 2000-2002.

Programming languages can be classified into several types depending on number of factors. The most common classification is as given below:
  • Procedural programming language: Example: PASCAL, C, ADA
  • Structured programming language: Example: BASIC, FORTRAN
  • Object oriented programming language: C++,C#, Java
In addition to above classification methodology one can also look at programming language from the perspective of it's application. For example PHP is a server side scripting language as it is used to communicate with the server and HTML is a Mark up language. A more detailed classification can be found here.

ALL HAIL TECHNOLOGY

Power of Technology

It was in the year 1994 when I first got a glimpse of computer. My father had taken a break from his long career in Power Industry  and set up a Computer Training Institute. With the help of 3 computers each worth Rs.30000, he trained a batch of 7-10 students to complete PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application). I did my part to help him promote his start up institute by distributing Student Curriculum brochures in my school. An year passed and my father realized that entrepreneurship is not his forte and went back to his world of Power and Refineries. Now a retired  general manager of a public refinery, he still wonders if he missed an alternate career in IT Training and services. Such is the power of technology.

My first encounter with Computers

The first computer i could get my hands on was a 2 Mb RAM, 386 AT and yes the monitor used a black & white CRT.

Back in early 1990's, owning a 2Mb RAM processor was as good as getting hold of an ipad. As a 8 year old I would often get defeated in PCMAN and PACMAN.

My old best friend Atari video game device appeared dejected. A room that had good ventilation was exclusively readied to house the computer. Little did i realize that someday i would just throw a much powerful and portable computer called laptop like a junk on the couch.
